"No child left behind"
I graduated from the National Changhua University of Education in 2012 with a degree in Special Education. This was followed by a six-month stint as a trainee teacher in a high school. I have passed the teacher qualification exam in 2013 and started teaching in The Affiliated Taoyuan Agricultural & Industrial Senior High School of National Taipei University of Technology as a SPED teacher. I've taught students with SPED needs from Grade 10 to Grade 12. Each class comprises 15 students with different disabilities including minor mental retardation, emotional and behavioral disorder e.g. ADHD, autism and other learning disabilities. In my class, I developed specialized academics, problem-solving curriculum and positive behavior support for students with multiple needs. After three years, all students made significant growth in reading, math computation and social skills abilities. I've been transferred to Inclusive Education Department in 2017. I led a 5-member learning support team and supported 130 students with mild to moderate dyslexia, ASD, ADHD through in-class support, small group specialized remedial work and/or skills training. I also taught learning strategies to small groups of students with dyslexia from inclusive classrooms by integrating specialized techniques designed to meet the individual needs of each student. For example: I helped students to recognize Chinese words and characters by analyzing similarities and differences of Chinese radicals and through the use of associative memory techniques. I also enhanced students’ reading comprehension by breaking down long passages into smaller sections and summarising each section. Combined text with verbal and visual information to improve understanding of the passages. Beside the specialty as a SPED teacher, I also obtained Certificate of Qualification to Teach Mandarin Chinese as a Second / Foreign Language granted by Ministry of Education, 30 October 2013.
