"To improve, to excel"
Every student is unique. Similarly, there is no fixed teaching style for anyone. There is an inherent need to judge each student's learning ability and be aware of their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to their studies. I have very good primary school teachers; and one of their techniques is to let the student understand the reason behind a certain concept/idea, instead of spoonfeeding them everything all the while and constantly forcing them to memorise stuff which they do not understand. This has two distinct advantages, firstly, during exam conditions which many students have a tendency to panic, the understanding behind a concept allows them to answer the question, even if they have forgotten the 'answer key' to such a question. Secondly, understanding such concepts remove the need to constantly visit them again in a bid to memorise them, thus saving much quality time during revision. When I teach, I usually go straight to the point and highlight the important things students need to take note of in a certain topic. Additional information outside the syllabus is good and will therefore be used as a learning tool for the student to better understand the concept. I aim for clarity in my teaching, instead of students memorising a thick stack of notes each time. Also, 'practice makes perfect'. Understanding a concept can also bring you so far. There is still a need to practice what you have learnt to further understand it better.
Taught one student in primary school math from p4 to p6. Got an 'A' grade for math in PSLE. Entered river valley high school with an aggregate of 249.
