"Learning by critical thinking, not by rote learning"
I am a graduate from NTU with 2nd Class Upper Honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and is now pursuing PhD studies in the same university. I always believe that for effective learning, one must understand and master the underlying fundamentals. From there, it is also crucial that the student must be trained to think critically, so that he or she can solve even questions, or problems in general, that were never encountered before. This is even more important, given that nowadays, exam papers tend to differ greatly from past years.
Currently, I am tutor for a Polytechnic Student in his Foundation Mathematics, for almost a year. From a student that is completely weak at mathematics, he has come to grasp the concepts and visualization well, and have gotten decent scores. Under NTU Student Union Mentor programme, I have tutored university juniors in Computing, a year one course module. From not having any programming knowledge initially, the juniors obtained B+ to A-for their final exams, under the span of just three months. I have also mentored students under the NTU EEE Mentor programme in Digital Electronics, a year two course module. Have assisted juniors who were retaking the paper into getting a B+ at least, under the span of three months.
During my final year in my secondary school (2001), I have won the Edusave (Independent Schools) Yearly Award, an award given to only the top 5% of the cohort in an independent school. I have also been shortlisted to represent my JC to take part in Maths and Physics Olympiad, once in 2002 and once in 2003.
