"Changing Students' Lives For The Better"
I want to pursue my interest of teaching and interacting with people on a daily basis. Also, I have a deep interesting in changing people's lives and I strongly believe that good and wonderful teaching is a catalyst for that. Thus, I want to pursue and hone that ability to impact people on a very personal level. I want to be that teacher that children can say, 10 years down the road, that has impacted and changed their lives. I do not have any credible teaching experience. I have however coached my sibling on Secondary 3 Pure Physics, Additional Mathematics, Elementary Mathematics for about a year now. Also, I have credible experience dealing with the mentally disabled and the mentally impaired from my time volunteering in the People's Association Youth Movement (PAYM). I also don't mind travelling places as long as I get to teach and help. I would conduct the first lesson in 3 parts: 1) Speaking with and understanding the student's views on studying and his/her interests and also what the parent thinks of the student's academic ability and character as a whole. This step is to gauge the student's interest level and character. 2) Going through the student's previous exam papers and results so I can assess his past performances and gauge his ability in the subject(s) I am teaching. 3) Set goals with the student and parent so I can understand the place they want to end up at with my teachings Teaching involves a variety of methods. The most notable I have used are: - Using visualisation via a medium the student understands (e.g. Drawing, or real world example that caters to the student's experiences) - Creating a worksheet which specifically tackles the student's weak spots. - Clarifying and teaching, with illustrations and examples, new/ complex theories - Incentivising or goodwill (e.g. lesser work with better results, or a movie ticket if a target is reached). I believe that with the right teaching method and engagement, any student can be taught well.
Currently have no experience except helping a family member achieve an A2 in Science from a C6 in Sexondary 2. Also worked with multiple mentally disabled, teaching them basic Maths and English.
I have achieved all B3 and above in my O Level. Attendees Mathematics Statistics Camp due to my Maths strength in Junior College.
