"True Understanding is Key"
I discovered my passion for teaching years ago while tutoring my friends in school. Through my teaching experience then, I realised why many of them were struggling: most of them had little understanding of what they were doing. They tried their best to memorise formulas and when to use them, without really understanding the fundamental concepts behind them. This is the result of the current education system in Singapore which is overly focused on grades, and so teachers teach in order to achieve the best grades in the shortest time possible. This results in plenty of rote-learning which is not only painful, but takes the fun out of learning. I always teach my students to learn things properly from the ground up, in order to get a thorough understanding of the concepts and learning where formulas come from. With that strong understanding, my students are well prepared to answer any type of question that may appear in examinations since they have a thorough understanding. Also, learning and studying no longer becomes such a chore, and even becomes fulfilling once students themselves realise that true progress is made.
5 years of teaching experience, taught a total of about 30 students. All my students have shown considerable improvement after being with me for a few months. Most significant improvements: O level A math & Chemistry: F9 to B3 in about 5-6months (same student) O level Physics: C6 to A1 in about 5 months
Other academic achievements/experiences: Dean's list (once) First Class Honours, CAP: 4.73 Winner of 2018 Japanese Speech Contest High distinction for Grade 8 Piano Exam
