"Get that A!"
I have had over 6 years' experience in both private tuition as well as full-time relief teaching in public Singaporean schools with MOE (essentially being treated as an NIE trainee/full time teacher as I was a form teacher for many months).I also have had extensive experience teaching English in tuition centers and in Vancouver, where I spent half a year on a working holiday. My teaching methods vary, tailored to each student's personal weaknesses, which I will assess at each first session. From then on, targeted areas (such as grammar, comprehension, writing skills, etc) will be given in-depth attention, with constant updates given to the child's parents. While I accept students of all levels (depending on my schedule) my primary specialisation and focus is on exam prep for O and A level students, and for the past two years almost all my students have seen at least a 3 grade jump in English, from 'C's to 'A's and from 'E's and 'F's to 'B's. Being Literature graduate from NUS, I have an added advantage as I am able to help each student with little tricks and also thus instill a love for the language (as many of my past students have turned out), not just improve the results of the student. In the end, language skills require not just rote memorisation but an extensive immersion into aforementioned language, which is my goal with each student. I have plenty of material gathered to help out my students and lots of practice to give, as well as a library of books I lend out to my students in an attempt to improve their vocabulary and grammar skills. This multi-tier approach to language is not for the faint-hearted, however, as much dedication is needed - on my part, which I guarantee, as well as on the student's part, for full success (meaning an A of course!) However, as I also have had experience teaching in a public school as well as tuition centres in Singapore, full-time, I therefore also have experience teaching slower children at their own pace, with encouraging words and less stress. Essentially, my teaching varies according to each student's abilities, as languages are subjective in their own right and require a slightly less quantified method of teaching. I am available for phone interviews for any questions raised before hire, and while under hire the student (depending on education level) will also be able to contact me 24/7 for any questions pertaining their work through email and phone, to facilitate face-to-face session or burning enquiries.
I have helped, over the past year, 7 students go from F grades to A grades, and every students of mine shows at the very least 2-3 grades' improvement.
