Reading is very important if you want to do well in languages. I will encourage reading and writing for my students and encourage them to take up good reading habits. The more you write and read, the easier the language becomes. I also encourage students to have a pocket dictionary for Chinese Language as it is essential and practical. Conversing in that language more definitely helps as well.
