"Effort, then excellence"
I am currently awaiting matriculation to study chemical engineering in NUS and I have been teaching secondary school students for over 2 years now.
It is important to learn your basic concepts thoroughly before attempting to continue to more complex topics. This is especially true for Maths and Science subjects that require a lot of practice. It is not a matter of memorisation but applying the right approach to each question.
The students that I have taught obtained As for their respective examinations.
One particular student that I used to teach had difficulties in understanding concepts in O-level Chemistry. The added stress hindered him from making any progress in the subject. As a result, he was left far behind by Sec 4. He eventually consulted my help in March and I had to teach him the entire subject within a period of 7 months. After several tuition sessions, his grades started to improve slowly and finally he achieved an A1 for Chemistry for his O-levels.
I have achieved a bronze for Chemistry Olympiad in 2012 when I was in Commonwealth Sec. Also, I have obtained a merit grade for H3 Pharmaceutical Chemistry for A levels.
