"I Motivate my kids to achieve what they want to become and therefore own their part to study hard to achieve it."
I am a full-time tutor of 17 years and focuses on Primary levels. As a result, I am very familiar with the syllabuses of all levels in English, Mathematics & Science. Of the Secondary levels, I teach only the English subject.
In 2005, I obtained the Cert. in Dyslexia Studies from Dyslexic Association of Singapore (DAS), where I am trained to teach with the Orton Gillingham (OG) approach, which is multi-sensory, kinesthetic and phonics based. OG method has been proven to help children with reading, spelling, writing and reading comprehension. I teach this on a 1-1 basis or in classes of max. 4 students. Every lesson is planned and paced according to the child’s needs.
I use a lot of materials to help my students with their English subject. I would cover on Oral, Composition, Vocabulary & Grammar Cloze, Synthesis, MCQ & Open Ended Comprehension and Spelling.
I use a lot of materials to help my students with their Mathematics & Science subjects. Mathematics is best handled with good command of English, concept and Mathematical skills, which requires understanding and also familiarity with certain mathematical formula and terms, so a lot of drill is necessary. For Science, I would revise from P3 and into the current topics with very clear, detailed explanation and question spotting.
Last July, I had a P4 boy who scored 65 marks for his SA1 Science and after only less than four months of tutoring, he scored 86 marks, a big jump from his SA1. Like most students, his weakness was in Section B, of which he overcame and excelled in his SA2.
I have many testimonies and I love to share of this boy, who was with me since P3 to Sec2. His average scores were 50+ marks in his EMS subjects when he started with me and in his PSLE, he scored all A*. This is the reason why I am still teaching and have great joy doing it.
I also hope to be able to understand what inspires and drives the child and pushes him or her to excel and ace in their exam.
I do not scold but motivates the child in my care to own their goals and to achieve it through hard work.
Currently, I have Pr 3, 5, 6, Sec1 and International school students in my care.
I lost all my data.....hard-disk crashed last June'08. I have only the Certificate in Dyslexia Studies.
My background is in Sales in the Retail (6yrs), Sales & Management in IT (6yrs) and now Teaching (20yrs).
