"Empowering Kids for Success"
I am a patient person who enjoys working with children and young people. I believe that the way to motivate them is through a balanced mix of fun, encouragement and impartation of study skills. What excites me most about teaching is seeing the improvement, excellent results and motivation to learn in my students and also witnessing their progress into independent learners. The appreciation that I receive from them always makes my day. MY TEACHING STYLE I tailor my teaching methods to the needs and capability of my students, targeting their weaknesses. > I use mind maps, create funny stories and build on their knowledge to help them relate and remember. > Where possible, I prompt them at their levels of capability, to figure things out. Once they could do so with some prompting, they would be able to do it more easily with other similar questions/concepts on their own.
I have about 15 years of experience as a tutor teaching English, Math, Science, Chinese and HCL at Primary school level and Math at Secondary school level with a proven track record. All my students showed good improvement. My weaker students improved from fail to good passes. The better ones not only achieved A and A*in PSLE, but also consistently obtained Distinction and High Distinction for ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools) for English, Math and Science organised by the UNSW (University of New South Wales). Under my coaching, one of my students got into the GEP and for PSLE, she achieved A* for all subjects and Distinction for Higher Chinese, with a T-score of 274. She got into the RI Integrated Program (IP) through DSA for excellent GEP results, and continued to excel in Secondary school, especially in Math for which she scored a GPA of 4.0 every year. She is now studying Law in NUS. Another one of my students won several awards in national and international Math and Science competitions (such as Math and Science Olympiad) organised by NUS High, RI and Hwa Chong. For PSLE, she achieved A* for English, Math and Science, A for Chinese and Distinction for Higher Chinese, with a T-score of 265. She got into the IP at RI through DSA for her talent in Math and is now in Sec 3. She continues to excel in Secondary school especially in Math for which she has been scoring a GPA of 4.0 every year.
