"Work hard work smart"
I believe my role as a private tutor is to complement, and not duplicate, the role of a school teacher. I do not like the idea of ‘re-lecturing’ all the topics that have been taught in school. I also do not like the idea of my students presenting to me their tutorial worksheets and expecting me to provide all the solutions for them. I expect my students to have paid attention in class and complete their tutorials on their own. During my lessons, I will then answer any queries that they may have regarding their lectures or tutorials, or go through the difficult concepts again. Cambridge’s current emphasis is on application rather than regurgitation. To help students understand and remember better, my approach has been to identify ‘patterns’ wherever possible, and apply these ‘patterns’ in different contexts. While a certain degree of memory work is inevitable, I do discourage my students from rote-learning concepts without understanding them.
Most of my students (about 80%) are able to get a significant grade jump for their final exams. I expect my students to put in the effort and I will do my part.
I graduated with 2nd upper honours in Chemical Engineering. I have straight A's for A levels. Won bronze award for Chemistry Olympiad during my JC years.
