As part of Generation Y whereby I have constant access to technology since young, I still strongly believe in some of the values and beliefs we should hold on firmly to even in face of this new technological age. First and foremost, I believe passion is something important I have that is not to be taken away easily from me. I have a strong interest in the Chinese language since young. As a writer, I always believe that it is extremely important for me to have an eye for details so that I can be observant and sensitive to everything that is happening in my life. From there, I am able to form my own take and understanding of issues and express my views and thoughts comfortably in the subject I like most, Chinese. I was an active member of the College Chinese Literature and Publication Society who offered invaluable assistance in the organization of various activities for the student population. I was instrumental in leading the college¡¯s Chinese Editorial Board by conducting effective meetings and discussions. As an Editor-in-Chief, I wanted to influence my peers positively and motivate them to experience the profound wisdom of our Chinese traditions. I have a burning passion for Chinese essay writing. I represented my college in the 2008 Global Chinese Youth Essay Writing Contest organized by the Confucius Institute of Nanyang Technological University. With the passion I have for writing, I was able to do well and did my college proud in winning the Top 20 in the Singapore Division. My interest for Chinese language also spurred me to achieve first prize in the intra-college Chinese essay writing competitions from 2006 to 2009. I have written a commendably well prose which was published in the ¡°Singapore Chinese Literature¡±, a publication by Singapore Association of Writers in July 2008. I was also awarded the 2nd place for the international Bingxin Literature Prize in 2009. Through these experiences, I have learnt to appreciate hard work and team synchronization better. In the past few years, I have come to realize how important it is to further develop the Chinese culture and beliefs in my country. A unique opportunity came in and I had the chance to publish a prose anthology in 2009, which I did so passionately. It was published into a book, together with other compilations from like-minded writers like me, which will be recommended to all secondary schools and junior colleges in Singapore. The sense of accomplishment I have attained from the recognition in various aspects has motivated me to scale greater heights. After going through many years of education, I feel that our country requires more mentors and teachers to cultivate and groom the next generation. I believe that understanding of concepts in a subject is crucially important for a student to learn well. My aspiration is to become a Chinese teacher. I believe that all students will be able to excel so long as they are self-disciplined and willing to put in adequate amounts of effort. To me, the role of a teacher is not just about teaching but in cultivating interest for the subjects in the students. Currently, I have actively engaged myself to be a part time Chinese tutor who is teaching a number of students from different backgrounds and levels. Through this, I find myself becoming more and more passionate towards teaching as the day goes by. I am eager to instil new knowledge into the minds of students. Now, I am clearer of what my lifelong aspirations are really going to be and I will pursue them, with much determination.
