"I strongly believe that my relationship with your child will give them the opportunity to improve basic skills, develop self-esteem and most importantly, become a lifelong learner."
Dear Parent, I am a young and energetic chinese female tutor who has been providing tuition classes for the past 4.5 years. I teach mainly English, Maths & Sciences (specalise in Chemistry & Physics). My students come from all walks of life; from Pre-School to Secondary 4/5 as well as occasionally JC/Polytechnic students. Besides being a tutor, I am also a Sunday/Preschool teacher at a church. At present I also have other students, hence I am only free on evenings and weekends. My timings are flexible as I understand your kids have CCA/prefect duties etc. Being a student once myself, I believe that in order to get a child who has problems coping with studies to eventually excel, the key is to befriend them and find out what are the barriers that hinders them from expanding their capabilities. For each and every of my student, I look to them as a younger sibling, as someone that I want to nurture. After the first 2 weeks of introduction, I will conduct a personalised tuition style based on what I feel is the best way to get them to absorb the knowledge. All lessons as in sync with the MOE syllabus. I do not believe in a strict teacher-student r/ship because then the child will feel uncomfortable and would not be willing to open/speak up about their uncertainties. Neither do I believe that 'assessment books' are the key to 'success'. A child may have a teacher who is certified by many certificates/degrees. But it takes someone who can truly communicate with kids/teenagers to be able to teach them in their own language. Not every student that I try to help will succeed but student SUCCESS is what DRIVES me to continue teaching.
I have taught students from the following schools: - St. Margaret's Sec - St. Theresa's Convent (CHIJ Toa Payoh) - Bishan Park Sec - Blangah Rise Pri - Hougang Sec - St. Margaret's Pri -Clementi Woods Sec - St. Andrews Sec - Cedar Sec, etc... - 90% of students see a grade improvement within 3-4 months after I have tutored them.* Based on the 2 common tests before and after tuition. - So far, All students who have previously failed the subjects (mostly english, physics, maths) pass their End of Year - Of the student, 6 Normal Academic and 2 Express students who were at the risk of 'repeating' eventually make it to the next academic year. - Received positive comments from parents that their kids are not as 'stubborn' and relectant to study as before. - Experienced in teaching/preparing students in their streaming levels and for PSLE/GCE O LEVELS. - Experienced and creative method in teaching those 'slower' students who are unable to grasp/apply concepts as fast as their peers.
