"Understand and You will Excel."
I have been teaching for near 2 years now, with experience in almost all levels. My expertise is in economics, and I have taught economics in private tuitions and at a junior college and saw many students through their alevels. I have also taught at a secondary school, teaching mainly English and science. Also, I have had primary school students for private tuitions as well. In general, I believe in attaining knowledge and not just studying for the sake of grades. I also believe with true understanding will a student then be able to score well in examinations. Hence I always aim to let my students gain understanding and insights, rather than to just memorise the content. I am also very patient as I think a willing learner always deserves attention. So, I am very willing to repeat the explanation or try to explain clearer to allow my students to understand. As practise makes perfect, more often than not I will go through papers with my students in order to let them gain familiarity with the application of their knowledge and skills.
Most of my students have improved after attending my classes. The economics students have all improved, where all the U and S graders for prelims scored D and above in their Alevels, amongst which a U grader achieved an A in her Alevels. My primary school students have also improved greatly, one of them is a primary 4 girl, who has previously failed her English and Mathematics but passed both after just 3 months of tuition, scoring near 70 marks for Mathematics in particular.
For my Olevels, my L1R5 is 8 without deducting points for CCA and I scored full distinctions as well. In Alevels, I took 4H2s and scored AABB and B in GP. My economics grades were very consistent throughout my two years in JC, being constantly among the top and hence shortlisted to return to teach after I graduated. I was also shortlisted to go for an intership at the economics department in the MOE HQ which provided me firsthand experience in teaching economics. Only 2 students were shortlisted for this internship out of all the applicants nationwide from all junior colleges.
