"Elevator to success is out of order, we'll take the steps. One at a time, together."
Hi, my name is Shaun, and I am a full-time private home tutor. I have been tutoring for 6 years. I used to be an Account Manager and Copywriter in the Advertising Industry. It had never occurred to me that I would end up teaching. What started as a temporary solution for staying afloat turned into a personal journey of self-discovery, as I took on more students along the way, and managed to understand and help them overcome their struggles through my own experiences as a child. Being effectively bilingual has given me an added advantage as I adopt a more diverse approach with my teaching. Through my students, I have come to realise that a language is 1) self-taught through observation and 2) validated through practice. Though there are no fixed rules on how to go about with learning languages, there are still certain recommended formulae for improvements by leaps and bounds. Also, the challenges children face with Mathematics word problems these days, are largely due to unfamiliarity with the language. They sometimes struggle to understand what is required, even when they have a good Mathematical mind. The result: either the students begin guessing the answers, or misinterpreting the questions. I’m also experienced with children with ADHD (Attention Deficit & Hyperactive Disorder). These kids require a little more attention, for us to determine what actually drives their need to perform, and a lot more patience to teach.
Garison Yap from Simei improved in overall performance in Chinese, and received compliments on his increasing interest in the subject.
