"Making your child a self-learner!"
I'm currently a final year student in NTU, pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering. I do not have formal experience in giving tuition but often find myself coaching fellow college students in similar field that are facing academic difficulties. I usually form self-study groups in preparation of the examinations so that I can answer queries raised by my peers and also to see how I can help digest their problems and dissect them into manageable and simpler solutions. As the style of teaching/learning differs greatly among many individuals, even in institutes of higher education, I often preach about equipping oneself with the ability to self-learn. This requires going back to the basics and build a strong foundation, irregardless of subject. One must be determined and motivated to be able to run through mundane exercises for smooth passage to the next level. Confidence-building is also possible in this process, making one more positive and comfortable about his/her ability to learn and achieve. Without this, it is common to see people giving up and telling themselves that they are not cut for it. In my years of studies in the university, I have seen many people at the verge of failure simply because the pace of which they can absorb and understand the concepts is slower than that of others. Some professors teach too fast, some too slow, there is no one size fit all solution in education. That is the main reason why I advocate self-learning.
