"Fulfilling your child's potential"
Hi there! I'm an upbeat and fun-loving person who loves people in general. Definitely an extrovert who is passionate about adding value to people's lives. My hobbies are playing badminton and the piano. I was in the badminton school team for all my education years. As for piano, I have grade 5 practical only but I have had the opportunity to play as a lounge pianist. I'm definitely not an expert but more of an aficionado. I'm an English Specialist with 7 years of tutoring experience under my belt. At one point in time I was teaching 10 students separately. I work well with different kinds of students, ranging from slow learners to ADHD students. I tailor-fit my lessons to suit the learning abilities of my students, making use of material found on the internet to stimulate the learning experience for my students. Of course, I still do make use of the usual assessment books found in Popular bookstores for the sake of examination purposes. Apart from seeking to inculcate a love for the language in my students, it is also my aim to be a good friend and listener to my students. Building Rapport I make sure I am immaculately groomed upon entering the household of my prospective student, and am polite to everyone whom i meet. During the first lesson, i refrain from jumping into tutoring the student but spend around 15 minutes chit chatting with him to get to know him better. On subsequent lessons, I will spend the first five minutes finding out how his week/day went. Over the course of time, I will seek to find out my students' interests and make sure I spend time conversing with him or her over them. Most importantly, I will seek to be an active listener, making sure my student feels like I enjoy entering his or her world. Ultimately, I hope to win my students over to become my friends by allowing them to learn more about my interests too, so that there would be some cultural exchange. To further build rapport with my students' parents, I will keep an open door policy while tutoring my students so that parents can be free to monitor the lesson as it goes on. This will allow me to build trust with my students' parents so they will know that I am a responsible tutor. Keeping Up with Curriculum I will continue to keep abreast with the latest curriculum by consulting the latest assessment books as well as checking in from time to time with friends who are teaching in MOE schools. As a good tutor I believe that in order to be a good English tutor, apart from the expected content knowledge, one must have the ability to transfer that knowledge to the students in captivating ways that make use of as many senses as possible, but chiefly the ones that the students are most receptive to. For example, if my student is a kinaesthetic learner with mild ADHD, I will reduce the use of assessment books to teach grammar and vocabulary, but introduce more technology and 3 dimensional activities to increase the use of the sense of touch during the lesson. Most importantly, I believe, what sets a great tutor apart from a good tutor, is the emphasis on being consistently encouraging to one's students no matter how they are performing at the point in time.
My primary three students scored an A for his English term test after being taught by me for just two months! All my students have seen improvement in their English results after receiving English tuition from me My proudest achievement was seeing one of students' English results improve from E8 in secondary 2 to A2 in secondary 4.
Studied in the prestigious Hwa Chong Humanities Programme, where excellence in English is fundamental.
